12 Artists-in-Training students participated in a June weekend retreat in partnership with Webster University. In addition to classes in acting, theater voice, audition preparation, and stage movement, students rehearsed and performed a fully-staged opera scene. This year’s scene was selected from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and was directed by Ron Gibbs and Alice Nelson. Students had the opportunity to talk to Opera Theatre Young Artists and current Webster University music students to get a taste of the collegiate experience and the life of a professional musician. Students enjoyed Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ productions of Verdi’s La Traviata and celebrated the successes of the AIT academic year with a tent-dinner before attending Blitzstein’s Regina, featuring acclaimed mezzo-soprano Susan Graham.
