“Miss Brewer’s love of her work shows not only in her performance, but also in the one-on-one lessons she held with us. She was invested in seeing that we improve, and she was also very curious about who we were. She even recommended other songs that she thought would suit us. It was wonderful to discuss and appreciate music with someone of her understanding and expertise. She was gracious and constructive with her critiques, and it was an inspiring experience to be able to work with her.” Margaret, Junior

Artists-in-Training students participated in a week-long winter residency lead by visiting artist and internationally-acclaimed soprano, Christine Brewer. From January 14-January 20, Students worked with Ms. Brewer in one-on-one lessons and in group master classes focusing on strong technique, interpretive performance practice, text analysis, and stage presence skills. The residency culminated in a public performance at The Ethical Society of Saint Louis on January 20th in which twenty-three AIT students sang a selection repertoire ranging from Italian baroque to Modern American compositions. As a special treat, Ms. Brewer closed the recital with a performance of “Mira” from Carnival by Michael Stewart and Bob Merrill.
