Artists-In-Training Students Conclude Year In Spring Recital and Award Ceremony
The 2018-2019 Artists-in-Training class closed their academic year with a spring recital and award ceremony adjudicated by acclaimed bass, Morris Robinson. Prior to Sunday’s recital, each student performed two selections for the international opera star who used these presentations along with performances at the afternoon recital to award nearly $12,000.00 in scholarship funds. On Sunday, April 14th, 23 students participated in a free public recital at The Sheldon Concert Hall for friends, family, and community members, emceed by Ms. Sherry Sissac of the Regional Arts Commission. Students performed varied works from Purcell to Bernstein before concluding the recital with a group performance of Marta Keen’s “Homeward Bound.”
After much deliberation, Mr. Robinson awarded Ms. Brittney Yarbrough of Edwardsville High School the top award – the Bayer Fund Award of $4,000. Isaac Williams and Delaney Holliday of Belleville West High School were awarded the Marielle Huber Award ($1750) and Maritz First Prize Award ($1250) respectively. Michael Lee of Westminster Christian Academy received the Maritz Second Prize Award ($1000), Margaret Jacquay of O’Fallon Township High School received Maritz Third Prize ($750), and Lily Kinnison of Cor Jesu Academy and Aaryn Gardner of McKinley Classical Leadership Academy tied for Maritz Fourth Prize ($500). Margaret Mischeaux of Normandy High School was awarded the MaryAnn McCormick Encouragement Award of $250 which was established by 2018 Adjudicator MaryAnn McCormick to recognize an underclassman who has demonstrated marked progress in their vocal development. 15 students received Honorable Mention Awards ($100) to recognize their commitment to the Artists-in-Training program.
