- How do I get an audition?
Applying for an audition is simple! You can apply online or request a hard copy brochure through our Contact page.
- How do I know when my audition is?
After your audition application has been received and processed you will receive a confirmation email that includes your audition time. As auditions draw nearer, you will receive a hard copy confirmation of your time in the USPS mail along with a map to the audition location and a voice information form.
- What do I need to bring to auditions?
When you come to your audition you should have the sheet music for both pieces you plan to present. You will also need to bring a handwritten or typed paragraph describing why you wish to be considered for the program and your voice informationform.
- Do I need to bring an accompanist?
No, an accompanist will be provided for you at the time of audition. Our excellent vocal coaches serve as accompanists for all auditions.
- When will I hear the results?
The audition panel will begin deliberations immediately after the final audition on Saturday. Students who are accepted in the program will be notified by phone call. All other students will receive a mailed letter.
- What should I sing?
You should select pieces that you can sing from memory with confidence at the time of the audition. Select from opera, art song, musical theater, spiritual or folk song. Above all, choose selections that showcase the best aspects of your voice.
- Who will be at the auditions?
When you arrive for your audition you will be greeted by the Education Coordinator who will receive your documents and let you know how the schedule is progressing. Other students may also be waiting outside the audition room when you arrive. The selection panel will include members of the AIT faculty, OTSL Education staff, and OTSL Artistic staff.
- Can my friends, family, or teacher come to my auditions?
Auditions are closed to all except members of the audition panel. Friends, family, and teachers may listen quietly from the hallway.
- What do I wear?
A neat appearance is best. We suggest men should wear dress pants or khakis and a button-down, collared shirt. Ties or jackets are optional. Women should choose dress pants and a nice top, or a skirt/dress that’s not too short. Avoid low necklines, thin straps, or very high heels.
